What Does Happiness Mean to You?

This is the very first Sanskrit shloka that I had learnt in school. Many of us follow the familiar path of Vidya -> Dhanam -> Sukham (Knowledge -> Wealth -> Happiness). But how often do we pause to consider the essential steps in between? Humility, Character, and Conduct – the bridges that lead us from knowledge to true contentment – are often overlooked in our pursuit.

Whenever I ask clients about happiness, their answers reflect the richness of human experience. Some speak of love and relationships, others of career milestones, and many recall the simple joys of childhood – when happiness was effortless, stemming from curiosity and living in the moment.

So, are we chasing happiness in the wrong places? Perhaps happiness isn’t a destination to pursue but a state to rediscover – rooted in simplicity, connection, and being present.

Here’s something to reflect on today:

1️⃣ What made you happy as a child?
2️⃣ How can you bring a bit of that unburdened joy into your life today?

Let’s remind ourselves that happiness isn’t lost – it’s just forgotten amidst the noise of adulthood. Reconnecting with those childlike joys and focusing on humility, character, and right conduct can guide us to lasting fulfilment.
